While there is much mystique surrounding the world of wine, the bottom line is: it’s meant to be enjoyed. And if you like it, then that’s that. But there is always more to learn, no matter how long you’ve been drinking wine, and a little added knowledge can always broaden one’s experience and heighten one’s enjoyment.
We have two series of wine classes coming up:
Classes at South Seattle College
We’ve organized a series of classes at the college beginning in October. They will cover the basic principles of wine and food pairing and explore the wines and cuisine of several regions. Each promises a delicious and informative evening of food, wine, and learning!
The classes will be held on campus and run from 6:00 to 8:30. The cost is $39 each plus a $15 materials fee. For more information or to register, go to the Continuing Education website.
Friday, October 6: Introduction to Wine and Food Pairing — Led by Reggie Daigneault, former program coordinator at the Northwest Wine Academy. She will cover the fundamental components of wines and foods and how to match them.
Friday, October 20: Pairing the Wines and Foods of Burgundy — Instructors from American Northwest Import and Distribution will pour Bugundies from the acclaimed 2014 and 2015 vintages and demonstrate how and why they pair so well with classic Burgundian foods.
Friday, November 10: Pairing the Wines and Foods of Germany — Greg Finger, of American Northwest, and our own Tom DiStefano will pair an outstanding selection of German wines with quintessentially German foods.
Classes Here in the Shop
These classes will be held here in our tasting loft and will begin at 7:30, running about an hour and a half to two hours. The cost is $35 ($30 for wine club members). Call us at 206.937.2868 for more information or to register.
Friday, November 3: Wines of Bordeaux — Learn more about this notoriously complex, but amazing region, home to some of the most storied wines in the world. Led by Reggie Daigneault.
Friday, December 1: Grower Champagne — This year our own Tom DiStefano will lead this annual class which explores the Champagne region and its wines, crafted by passionate grower/producers from the various distinct sub-regions.
We occasionally coordinate with local restaurants to present wine dinners. These events showcase some of the outstanding restaurants in West Seattle, and feature wines specially selected to highlight the menus, from some of our favorite distributors and wineries.
We have no wine dinners scheduled at this time. Check back for updates.
