Washington Wine Club – May 2007

2004 Bergevin Lane Vineyards, Intuition Reserve, Columbia Valley
We’ve always loved the wines from Bergevin Lane, as well as our good friends Annette Bergevin and Amber Lane. They’ve been putting out great wines for about four years now and it’s about time we shared one of them with our Washington Wine Club members again. The 2004 Intuition Reserve is a Bordeaux-style blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 15% Petit Verdot and 7% Cab Franc. It’s dark, rich and elegant with a long and lovely finish. At $45, there’s none left. It could definitely benefit from some time in the cellar.

2004 Va Piano, Cabernet Sauvignon
Bear discovered this winery last year and the rest is history. Justin Wylie is a great guy and a great winemaker (we’ve found the two seem to go hand in hand). Wylie’s own vineyards took a rest in 2004 thanks to the freeze, so this 100% Cab comes from the Lewis and Cold Creek Vineyards further west. The result is a beautiful, but extremely limited Cabernet. It was $38. If you give it a few years you will be richly rewarded.
