West Seattle Art Walk + Free Wine Tasting this Thursday, September 8, 2016

This coming Thursday, West Seattle’s monthly Art Walk coincides with our free Thursday tasting… offering a perfect way to taste a delicious line-up of wines while you enjoy a new display of artwork. Here are the details:

Time: 5:30 to 9:00 pm
Where: 6026 California Avenue SW, Seattle, WA 98136
Wines: Wines from France’s Loire Valley
Artist: Shirley Rudolf

From the Artist:

My lifelong dream was to paint with watercolors so I took six years of semi-private lessons from an accomplished artist in the area where I lived. My paintings reflect “me,” my confidence and expression through the use of vibrant colors and captured details. They encompass a wide range of subjects—floral, landscapes, and animals.

In the last nine years I have found another medium I enjoy painting with—acrylics. It’s been a real challenge adjusting from watercolors to acrylics, but over time, even though watercolor is my first love, I LOVE acrylics. Occasionally, I dabble in Pop Art as I love Andy Warhol’s simplicity.

Through the years, I have exhibited as a featured artist or in group shows with private and artist-owned galleries, wineries and tasting rooms, financial institutions, legal and medical offices, and a variety of corporations and proprietorships throughout California and Washington.

From the Artist:

I have enjoyed a number of mediums in my journey to express my personal joy of life. Oils allowed me to jump in feet first and make a statement. Watercolor honed my appreciation for transparency and suggestion. THEN I discovered encaustic and the love affair began! Once I took my first class from Stephanie Hargrave my soul soared! I have found a piece of heaven through transparency and dimension. I’ve found wings I didn’t know were there, pools of healing waters, the sound of meadow birds…my favorite means of expression. I’m home.

Time: 5:30 to 9:00 pm
Where: 6026 California Avenue SW, Seattle, WA 98136

Artist: Kaddee Lawrence

From the Artist:

Dr. Kaddee Lawrence has spent her life in, on, and around the ocean. She grew up near estuaries, rivers, ponds, and the sea. As a child she would disappear for hours to the seashore, poking under rocks and collecting all nature of slimy, squirmy delights of which her mother was none too fond. Her fascination with life and life cycles, and the sea and its denizens, led her to the Puget Sound and its critters for her PhD in Neurobiology.

Since then there has been extensive (though not as extensive as she would like) diving trips in such places as the Red Sea, the Andaman Sea, the Caribbean, Hawaii, and throughout Puget Sound. She has been observing, photographing, and above all, delighting in the flora and fauna she has encountered.

After years as an educator and scientist, Kaddee continues to be an observer of, and an advocate for, the ocean and those that make it their home. She continually exhibits the delight and the pure joy of exploration and discovery that is usually reserved only for children. She can often be found wandering the beaches of Alki at low tide discovering and describing the critters to anyone who will listen.

Kaddee has spent most of her career as a scientist, educator, and SCUBA diver and is now branching out into the world of photography. She hopes that, in some way, her photos will inspire the same joy and love of the ocean to those that are willing to explore it.

He founded Cadence Winery in 1998 with his wife and business partner Gaye McNutt. Cadence is Washington’s leading producer of vineyard designated Bordeaux blends. He was named Seattle Magazine Winemaker of the Year in 2012, and Cadence has been honored as an Artisan Winery of the Year five times by Wine & Spirits Magazine.

Ben’s photographic interest began in high school with an old Minolta SLR. He built his own 4×5 view camera and hauled it all over the Cascades for several years. Thirty years later his Sony A7ii is considerably lighter but he still loves to use up to 50-year old vintage lenses on the camera. He strives for an uncluttered view of natural and architectural beauty in the world around us.

We made our goal, reaching Everest Base Camp at about 17,600 feet, and it was truly a life-changing experience. Of course, we took lots of photos and for this month’s Art Walk we have selected a few to share that we hope will convey a sense of our incredible adventure.
